Capability Brown and his times

2016 marked the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown’s birthday. This well-known English landscape architect, often called “England’s greatest gardener”, designed over 170 parks in the 18th century, such as the gardens at Hampton Court or Blenheim Palace. To celebrate this anniversary we offer a photographically illustrated and historically commentated concert.

There are different layers to this programme. The musical performances will tell the story of the times Capability Brown lived in: the society, the history, the arts and music and the science in the 18th century. The photography and video installations will illustrate Capability Brown’s work and how his landscapes evolved over the centuries. Along the programme we will explain our choice of music and photography and make the link to our present day lives. We will provide a commentary to his life, without telling his life story.
